The Upper San Juan winds 27 miles through fascinating desert geology rich with archaeological sites. This stretch is an excellent river for rafters of all skill levels. You will find Class I rapids (gentle bumps) and Class II+ (you will get splashed). You will have opportunities to explore the delicate nature of desert landscapes and riparian ecosystems, and time to relax in excellent company while practicing “Leave No Trace” techniques to minimize the group’s impact while enjoying the wilderness. There are hikes to petroglyph panels, cliff dwellings, and other sites of Ancestral Puebloan material culture.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”full_width_background” bg_color=”#4c859b” scene_position=”center” text_color=”light” text_align=”center” top_padding=”45″ bottom_padding=”15″ overlay_strength=”0.3″][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ width=”1/3″][vc_video link=”http://vimeo.com/50775214″][/vc_column][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]

Most of Deer Hill’s service projects get you working alongside Hopi, Navajo and Zuni families on projects that they have proposed. Oftentimes, host families will share cultural knowledge, stories, and arts with participants. Other service projects are conservation oriented, and arranged with the US Forest Service or Bureau of Land Management. Service projects in summer expeditions will earn you between 20 and 56 service credit hours.
